Our history
SSHAN (Salt Spring Health Advancement Network) began as a grassroots initiative when a call for support in a local newspaper led twelve community members to volunteer their time to help recruit doctors to Salt Spring Island. It became clear that in understanding health, a more wholistic scope was needed.

SSHAN evolved into a network aiming to address the well-being of the entire community, with a specific focus on Seniors and Mental Health, as identified through data review, action research, and community interviews (2015). SSHAN continues to center the needs of marginalized and underrepresented community members.
